Some say you gotta be nuts to do an Ironman, let alone do it on your own. This November we'll see just how nuts I am when I attempt my first
self supported Ironman distance triathlon in my own neighborhood. This event is inspired by my buddy & also arch nemesis, Texafornia. Brett
(aka Texafornia) has done two self supported IM in Texas. His most recent was done in honor of his son being born. Hence the name of his
Ironman was "IronBaby". You can draw your own conclusion as to the name of IronNut.
All are welcome to participate in anyway they want. Come out & join me for the whole thing or just a portion of it. Feel free to help with tracking,
water, food, supplies or just heckle me to keep me motivated. Kelley aka (SpecialK) my future wife, is going to train for the marathon portion.
This will be her first attempt at 26.2 miles. Others that might join in the mix are some real unique triathletes in the blogosphere of triathlon.
Texafornia, Moonpie, Bigun, Coach Adam, Mike Keller & possibly the fundraising superstar himself - Triboomer! With any luck I'll be able to
get him to come out along with the others. To find out more about doing a self supported IM visit 140dot6.com.

IS THIS IRONMAN? - That is entirely up to the
individual. That question has as many answers as
there are triathletes. Some would say no, some
would say yes. A few believe the only true Ironman is
a triathlete that does Kona. Yet, I know many
triathletes that have done Arizona, Lake Placid &
Wisconsin, that without hesitation call themselves
an Ironman. So if you embark on a self supported
140.6, it's really a non-issue with us. Call yourself
whatever you feel like calling yourself. It's not up to
someone else to define you after doing something
like this.
The image below is an overview of the swim course. I might reduce the course to two shorter loops,
instead of an out and back. Click on either the interactive map or the images to see a larger view.
Team in Training Coach, Holly, is graciously providing her home and dock for the Iron Nut and
anyone that may join in. We're working on support boaters or kayakers to follow the swimmers to
increase safety. Nobody will be swimming alone.
Holly's dock, driveway & garage
will serve as T1. This is
graciously provided by Holly
Tripp. A Team N Training
coach and fellow Ironman.
Once out of Holly's house it's onto
the bike course. Proceed out of
her development and south on
SR-41. Reset your bike odometer
when you get to SR-41 and are
heading south. It's about 1 mile
until you get to SR-54.
I've used MapMyTri so all
distances are as accurate has the
website. I've done this route and
can say that it's pretty close. You
might end up with an extra mile.

coming soon! The sites below will be used.
The bike portion will end at my house in Long Leaf. A small community in New Port
Richey FL. Here you'll bike into my garage and enter "transition" in the back of the
house. Take has long as you need. I have a Sony Playstation. If you feel the need to
relax before hitting the streets of Long Leaf for the run just don't sweat on my couch.
Out the front door and you'll begin the run immediatley. The house will also be a
part of the run course. We loop back to it 3 times. It will also serve as the finish line.
Niki, our dog, will gladly watch your bikes in exchange for doggy treats.
The finish line and end of
the line for the Iron nut.
I'm going to be enlisting
family members and
neighbors for support. They
will be here during the day
and at the end to provide
any help needed
throughout the day.
More details coming soon.
